Happy Friday! I’m writing this between bouts of online swimsuit shopping — our one-year anniversary trip to Costa Rica is coming up, so I’ve got beaches, plantains, and bikinis on the brain. We just returned from San Diego and got teased with bright, sunny moments and a little beach time. We even managed some surfing despite the water being only 59 degrees — wetsuits are essential. I’ll share a full recap of our La Jolla and San Diego trip next week with hotel, excursion, and restaurant recommendations to help you plan a future visit.
For now, here’s a rundown of the outfits I wore on this trip. Before we left, I wanted a little color since I planned to wear dresses, shorts, and hopefully a swimsuit. I visited Glamour Bar Denver for a spray tan after hearing so many rave reviews — and it exceeded expectations. The tan faded gradually after kayaking and surfing, but it was the most even, natural spray tan I’ve had. If you’re in Denver, I highly recommend them.
First up: this ultra-soft tee comes in three colors and works tucked or untucked. I paired it with my favorite affordable crop jeans and the most comfortable slip-on sneakers I own. I walked many miles in those shoes around California — they truly feel like walking on clouds.

I wore this dress while wandering La Jolla. We discovered a friend had rented a beach house nearby and decided to stroll through the neighborhood to admire the homes. I love this dress — it’s offered in six colors, fits beautifully, and transitions easily from casual with sneakers to dressed-up with wedges.

This lightweight dress had me dreaming of summer and Costa Rica. I wore it to a charming beachfront restaurant. We realized it was under two miles away and decided to walk — ended up adding a few detours and half-mile strolls to bars before dinner. Not the best choice with new wedges, but I made it and rewarded myself with a dirty martini (and a cab home afterward).

Before surfing, I enjoyed an incredible short rib hash and then stopped at Lululemon. This activewear outfit was perfect for the 6+ miles we walked that day (we got lost and probably walked even more). These leggings come in four colors, feature cute side cutouts, and are super comfortable. I’m tempted to buy them in black next.

This cold-shoulder dress is soft and comes in five colors. I paired it with a woven clutch available in several shades — a subtle pop of color that’s great for early summer outings.

Finally, I wore this casual look while exploring Balboa Park in San Diego. The park is stunning and I wish we’d had the energy for the zoo, but after so much walking I was spent. I paired my go-to sneakers with slouchy jean shorts and a long-sleeve top to stay comfortable on a dreary day.

I hope these outfits gave you some inspiration for your own wardrobe. I can’t wait to share the full California trip recap next week. A quick note: some links in this post are affiliate links; I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and all opinions are my own.
