Top Brisbane Travel Highlights: Must-See Sights & Tips

Whenever I travel, I look for destinations with a distinct personality and memorable experiences that stand apart from the usual. Brisbane — playfully nicknamed Brisvegas — blends trendy restaurants and bars, gorgeous parks, modern art, abundant outdoor activities and a lively social scene. What makes Brisbane special is how a fast-growing modern city coexists with colonial heritage and diverse ethnic roots. It’s easy to fall for a place that offers both laid-back relaxation and Brisvegas-style excitement.

1) Flying business class with Singapore Airlines

The journey matters to me as much as the destination. A smooth check-in, a comfortable flight and good food can kick off a trip the right way. My business class experience with Singapore Airlines was all of that and more. After seamless check-in, security and immigration, I relaxed with a warm dinner in the SilverKris lounge. The flights across all four sectors (Delhi–Singapore–Brisbane and back) were exceptionally comfortable, helped along by warm, attentive crew.
The seat layout provided privacy, generous legroom, a large entertainment screen and efficient service during a three-course meal. Lying completely flat on the plane made it feel like the trip had already begun. Singapore Airlines connects to Brisbane conveniently via Singapore and offers comfort whether you fly Business or Economy. Thank you, Singapore Airlines, for a great start to the trip!

2) Vintage Picnic

My first Brisbane memory felt like a summer dream: a picnic at New Farm Park set up by Georgia of Vintage Picnic Company. Every detail — vintage rugs and cushions, chilled champagne, a tempting spread of muffins, croissants and sandwiches, and fresh flowers — was thoughtfully arranged beneath bunting flags beside a rose garden. Moments like this capture Brisbane’s relaxed pace and sunshine mindset perfectly.

3) Night Kayaking

If I had to pick one experience I’d return for immediately, it would be night kayaking with Riverlife. Picture yourself in a kayak on a calm river with Brisbane’s skyline and the Story Bridge as a backdrop. Paddling through the river at night was both thrilling and peaceful. Although it was my first time kayaking, the Riverlife instructor provided a clear, reassuring tutorial before we launched. Even if you’ve never kayaked before, this is an accessible and unforgettable experience — once you’re out there, you won’t want to leave the water.

4) Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was high on my list after missing native wildlife the last time I visited Australia. I began the day feeding kangaroos — slightly intimidating at first, but soon delightful — and held a koala, which was hands-down one of the gentlest, most calming 30 seconds of my life. The animals at the sanctuary appear to be very well cared for, and the staff clearly prioritize their welfare.

5) Lots of Vegetarian Food

Brisbane got me excited about vegetables — pumpkin, zucchini flowers and beetroot featured in ways I hadn’t expected. What stood out across restaurants was a strong focus on high-quality ingredients and bold flavour. Memorable meals included stops at Donna Chang, City Winery and Three Blue Ducks, among others. I’ll be sharing a dedicated list of places to eat in Brisbane soon, along with highlights from Eat Street and the must-try dishes there.

6) Delectable Tours

One standout day was a food tour with Delectable Tours. They curate visits to restaurants that showcase Brisbane’s innovative culinary scene. Jamie-Lee organised a “Delectable Taste of Queensland” tour and drove me around to sample local flavours. We began with coffee tasting at Fonzie Abbott in Albion, moved on to a cheese tasting at Stafford’s The Cheeseboard, and enjoyed a plant-based lunch at Grown — their house-made hash brown and scrambled tofu left a lasting impression. The tour is an excellent way to discover places you might otherwise miss.

7) Urb-E Tour

After the night kayaking, we returned to try an Urb-E tour — a fun, easy-to-ride electric bike that’s perfect for exploring Brisbane. Starting from Riverlife at Kangaroo Point, the ride took us past landmarks like the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, South Bank, Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Eagle Street Pier and Howard Smith Wharves, finishing at the botanical gardens. While walking is often the best way to explore, riding an Urb-E offers a fresh, energetic perspective on the city.

8) Stay at W Brisbane

My stay at W Brisbane was pure luxury. From the incredible city view on the 33rd floor to the stylish wet deck, comfortable rooms and an inviting pool, every detail reflected W’s signature design and hospitality. The spacious room, interesting interiors and an in-room bar made it hard to leave — but Brisbane’s vibrant streets were too compelling to miss. Whether you’re visiting for work or leisure, W Brisbane is a comfortable, design-forward choice for a memorable stay.
Brisbane blends relaxed, sunny living with unexpected culinary creativity and exciting outdoor experiences. From premium flights and curated food tours to night kayaking and wildlife encounters, the city offers a wide range of highlights for curious travellers. If you’re planning a trip, Brisbane rewards those who seek memorable activities, good food and genuine local character.
